About this deal

Its input to a movie mix can sound a bit tonally detached, though, rather than slotting itself perfectly onto the bottom end of the main speaker sound, and the film world’s most bombastic basslines can cause a bit of buzzing and distortion. Add in the fact that there’s no cable-cover or cable-management included, and this Hisense is not the most obvious candidate for wall-mounting. The 55A7GQ’s remote control is lightweight, plasticky, and more button-heavy than it probably needs to be.

DTS Virtual X – DTS Virtual X is a premium audio post-processing option for televisions that elevates the viewing experience. It respects the content creator's intent, as it has good tone mapping, and it tracks the PQ EOTF well, up to a smooth roll-off near the TV's peak brightness. Unfortunately, the E7K Pro’s picture management system doesn’t manage to marshal all of its ambitions into a consistent enough performance to deliver the all-round quality its ambitions deserve. The U7H delivers slightly better picture quality, with a better local dimming feature and slightly better contrast. It has excellent peak brightness in SDR and good reflection handling, so glare isn't an issue even in a bright room.

Hisense positions the 55E7HQTUK as an entry-level QLED Quantum Dot TV, capable of reproducing ‘over one billion shades of colour. They’re responsive enough to adjust to sudden action or horror movie escalations too, and can go loud without becoming shrill, harsh or excessively coarse. There's some noticeable dirty screen effect in the center of the screen, which can be distracting when watching sports or browsing the web.

With this update we've revamped our Gradient testing, added a new test for Low Quality Content Smoothing, and expanded our Audio Passthrough testing. Continuing the gaming discussion, the 55A7GQ’s HDMIs support ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode) switching with compatible devices (such as the Xbox Series X), and when switched into its dedicated Game picture preset the TV delivers a very respectable 14. The inclusion of a ‘Game Menu’ bar further bolsters the television’s case as a gaming monitor - it’s possible to check on the most relevant aspects of performance while remaining in-game rather than having to exist into the main menu pages. The TCL also has much better accuracy before calibration, which is great if you care about an accurate image. They're both similarly average in processing, although the TCL is better at low-quality content smoothing while the Hisense has the edge in upscaling. The Hisense performs much better in a dark room due to its more effective local dimming feature, better contrast and black uniformity, and highlights pop a bit more in HDR thanks to its slightly better HDR peak brightness. Its Mini LED backlight and great local dimming feature deliver a fabulous experience, matching or exceeding more expensive TVs from other brands. When it comes to the picture presets, the HDR Day and Night presets actually look worse than the default Standard setting.

Gamers, meanwhile, are directed towards the LG C2 - again, it’s a 2022 model but we doubt very much that will bother you once you’ve seen how it responds to inputs from your games console. The TCL delivers much better picture quality overall, with better uniformity, higher contrast, and better reflection handling, so it looks better in both bright and dark rooms. We uploaded the initial brightness measurements and uniformity photos for the Accelerated Longevity Test. It has excellent peak brightness and good reflection handling, so glare isn't an issue in a bright room.

The DTS Virtual X solution psychoacoustical leverages the industry champion in virtual surround sound to offer up to 7. Finally, the U8H looks better in a bright room as it has much better reflection handling and gets much brighter in SDR, meaning it can handle more glare. We uploaded the brightness measurements and uniformity photos after running the TV for four months in our Accelerated Longevity Test.
