About this deal

Drawing from the testimony of scientists, conservationists and rangers, this beautiful and important volume explores the countless extraordinary species facing extinction and maps a hopeful path to changing our perception and appreciation of the natural world. He is co-author of the World Health Organization's award-winning Inheriting the World: The Atlas of Children's Health and the Environment.

An Atlas of Endangered Animals is a beautifully illustrated, fascinating and important document of an incredible world at risk, and, just maybe, a handbook for restoring it. As well as some of the well known species that are teetering on the edge of the abyss that is extinction, she also covers some lesser known species. Pretty sound balance in coupling her own experiences with the essential facts for each of the species that are covered. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. An Atlas of Endangered Animals' is a beautifully illustrated, fascinating and important document of an incredible world at risk, and, just maybe, a handbook for restoring it. Although the book was excellent I found myself feeling a bit doom and gloom after reading it, especially as I finished it a day after the UK PM pushing back on some of the UK green commitments. Sharks can navigate the ocean using electromagnetic fields; sloths use algae as camouflage; albatross can fly for hours without beating their wings; and orca pods each have unique cultures and languages. Megan does seem to try not to paint too bleak a picture, but I’m afraid I was left feeling that despite the courageous work of the many individuals that she introduces us to in the book, who are fighting to preserve the featured species, it is all ultimately going to prove to be too little, too late.

She most recently presented Springwatch, alongside Chris Packham, and is the founder of The Self-Isolating Bird Club on twitter, and co-founder of Wildlife Rebellion. There are currently 41,415 listed endangered vertebrate species, and over 16,000 of them are threatened with extinction. An Atlas of Endangered Species shows us that the battle is on for their survival - and we all have a part to play. Also included is one plant species, an orchid, making me aware of the practice of plant poaching, which is making many species of plant similarly in danger of extinction. The diversity of life on earth is astounding, with each species perfectly adapted to its environment.A keen photographer, in 2019 she was appointed as the coordinator and judge of Young Bird Photographer of the Year. I listened so I didn't see the dyslexia friendly version of the book but I thought this was brilliant, something that had never occurred to me. Her interest stems from a childhood growing up in and around the Isle of Wight Zoo, which specialises in the rescue and rehabilitation of ex-circus and pet trade animals. Richard Mackay is a specialist in environmental impact assessment and environmental policy maker for major companies. Vividly presented through full-colour maps and graphics, this fully revised and updated atlas profiles species lost, threatened and surviving today.
