About this deal

From my 9 year old: If you are interested in a fantastic and adventurous book, Around The World is the best book for you or your child.

Things are not spelled out for us - we have to interpret the pictures to understand major plot points. The last part was about a mariner who repaired an old, derelict boat and sailed alone around the world. Still from the 1956 film adaptation of Around the World in 80 Days, starring (from left) Robert Newton as Inspector Fix, David Niven as Phileas Fogg, and Shirley MacLaine as Aouda. With the decision "Only accept essential cookies" we will respect your privacy and will not set cookies that aren't necessary for the operation of the site. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. Having dismissed his valet for bringing him shaving water at a temperature slightly lower than expected, Fogg hires Frenchman Jean Passepartout as a replacement.Since Fogg fits the vague description Scotland Yard was given of Strand, Detective Fix mistakes Fogg for the criminal. There are a few scrapes along the way which add to the sense of adventure and supply a tiny bit of tension to what is, mostly, a light-hearted and witty novel. Finally, in 1892, Massachusetts sea captain Joshua Slocum sets sail alone on the Spray, intending to sail around the world. Slocum's survival, on the other hand, is very much up in the air, and though there are no cheering crowds to greet his arrival in a new body of water and no news crews to record his every word, the drama is thick as he struggles to stay alive, battling the ghosts of his life at the same time as he struggles with the angry waves that threaten to destroy him. The train travels through India until stopping at the village of Kholby, where Fogg learns that, contrary to what was reported in the British press, the railroad is 50 miles (81 km) short of completion, and passengers are required to find their own way to Allahabad to resume the train trip.
