About this deal

What happens to his characters, who are usually in thier 30s and 40s leading normal lives and have families, could happen to nearly every one of us. These minor errs in judgment are completely cast aside when some of his IM conversations begin getting cryptic and seem to suggest their son might be getting involved in something a tad too dangerous and potentially illegal along with the son of the neighborhood cop, always a bad sign as those kids end up either total punks or policeman themselves, an undesirable fate either way. What had me intrigued was the whole spyware angle, I was totally sold on a story which vilifies this practice and exposes this software as the devil’s work. Before she can find out more, Adam disappears, taking the truth with him and sending shock waves through the neighborhood.

He was won the El Premio del Novela Negra RBA in Spain, the Grand Prix de Lectrices in France, and the CWA/ITV3 Bestseller Dagger for favorite crime novelist in England. Comprised of a compelling plot (and twists), believable characters and a pace that would put a cheetah to shame, this was quite an enjoyable stand alone novel from that crafty Mr Coben! A well-loved teacher makes a terrible mistake by humiliating one of his students in front of her classmates and the effects will be catastrophic. This has proved to be somewhat inconvenient for a former scoundrel such as myself, and also seems a bit unfair seeing as this is a pretty one-sided deal, as I have no such methods of gathering intelligence on her activity. He now lives in New Jersey with his wife, Anne Armstrong-Coben MD, a pediatrician, and their four children. As if Mike Baye isn’t dealing with enough, he also learns that Lucas Loriman, the sweet kid who grew up next door, is in urgent need of a kidney transplant. There are a series of interrelated plots, all of which come together in a surprising yet logical way, and, just when you think the plot is solved, there is another twist. He does bring them together at the end of the book, but you may want to have a small chart to keep track of everyone in the book. In the end I was satisfied with the ending, it wrapped up but in a logical way - not like some books I read that tie everything up extra neatly.

It had been mentioned a few times but it still took me a minute to make the connection with who they were.

He becomes a spy by chance when he meets an attractive woman who with her father are operating a small spy operation. He starts to chase after what looks to be one of Adam's friends, but is then confronted and severely beaten by an unknown group.

Question: When Ron tells Betsey he knows she blames him for getting the refill and leaving the pills out Betsey swore she didn't blame him but Ron insisted she did.Question: In regards to her son's suicide, Betsy feels that everyone wanted to blame her and Ron because that way something like this could never happen to them. The author's constant head hopping gave me whiplash and its depressing ending, the confusing and not always convincing spy thread aggravated me. Question: Should Betsey Hill have confronted Adam directly at school or should she have gone through his parents?
