About this deal

S. Lewis Company had entered into an agreement with the Mark Gordon Company to jointly develop and produce The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair. They discover a wardrobe in Professor Digory Kirke's house that leads to the magical land of Narnia. The Royal Shakespeare Company premiered The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1998. On the journey his companion Aravis learns of an imminent Calormene surprise attack on Archenland; Shasta warns the Archenlanders in time and discovers his true identity and original name.

However, Poskanzer criticized Lewis for what she regarded as scenes of gratuitous violence, which she felt were upsetting to children. The first edition of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was released in London on 16 October 1950. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first book to be written and published, is generally considered the best introduction to Narnia by scholars and fans alike. The book and lyrics were written by Jaime del Mundo and Luna Inocian, while the music was composed by Lito Villareal.

The converse applies, of course, to books like the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman, who avowedly seeks to be the "anti-Lewis;" it isn't surprising that his work is less appreciated by readers who hold a very negative view of militant atheism. NarniaWeb is maintained by fans and is in no way connected to Walden Media, Walt Disney Pictures, 20th Century Fox, The Mark Gordon Company, Netflix, or the C. He was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. Fleeing potential assassination by his uncle, he becomes leader of the Old Narnian rebellion against the Telmarine occupation. They are reunited with old friends, the young King Caspian and Reepicheep the mouse on a voyage of discovery to the End of the World. The books span the entire history of Narnia, from its creation in The Magician's Nephew to its eventual destruction in The Last Battle. The spirit of gung-ho adventure is coated over with sickly-sweet preachiness which becomes so cloying towards the end that one almost feels like throwing up. Read this as a kid and re-read later on, these 7 books were a great form of escapism despite the somewhat overbearing Christian symbolism that is pervasive throughout. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia has captivated readers of all ages for over sixty years, enchanting them with fantastical talking creatures, epic battles between good and evil, and magical doorways into new lands.

The first three books are rather well-written (although a bit simplistic) and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is your classic sea adventure. Written by Lewis, illustrated by Pauline Baynes, and originally published in London between 1950 and 1956, The Chronicles of Narnia has been adapted several times, complete or in part, for radio, television, the stage, and film.In the later books, Eustace comes across as a much nicer person, although he is still rather grumpy and argumentative.

The next story in the series, The Horse and His Boy, takes a dark, ethnocentric turn with its unfavorable depiction of the Arab-like "Calormen" (shoes turned up at the toe, scimitars, suffixed phrases of praise, "son of" lineage declarations). The series was first referred to as The Chronicles of Narnia by fellow children's author Roger Lancelyn Green in March 1951, after he had read and discussed with Lewis his recently completed fourth book The Silver Chair, originally entitled Night under Narnia. Begun in March and completed at the end of July 1950, [18] The Horse and His Boy was published on 6 September 1954.

One reviewer states that the series "has no real conflicts" because Aslan can exercise miraculous power to resolve them. There was also more human and animal interaction in this story than in the previous one, but it’s interesting to read about. Lewis's acclaimed and universally loved novels spring to life in these spellbinding full-cast BBC dramatisations.
